2005 Smart Roadster Coupe
55k miles
Paddle gear wheel
Semi-auto gearbox with full auto switch
15″ trackline wheels
In-dash CD player
factory sound pack (extra speakers)
two new rear tyres (Continentals, Smart spec)
12 months MOT
6 months tax
Drive away my much loved Smart Roadster Coupe. It’s been on trips across Europe a couple of times, served as a commuter and a motorway carriage. It will almost never return less than 40mpg no matter what type of driving you do, but happily cruises at 80. In town the semi-auto/full auto gearbox makes it easy to drive, whilst out on the motorway it’s stable and safe, and the handling is classic rear drive, mid engine, it feels like it pivots around you.
It has removable hard top panels which take under a minute to stow in the back (and less time to put back if it starts to rain…). It’s never leaked (those with electric fabric roofs are occasionally leaky), and with a front boot and rear shelf, you wouldn’t believe how much stuff you can get in it. Really. And it’ll take taller people than you’d think.
It’s just had a “B” service and MOT at Merc/Smart Portsmouth. Service history is from Mercedes Smart and Smarts-R-Us (Romsey smart specialists, know more about smarts than smart!), It missed a couple of “A” services back in 06/07, but has had a full bill of health at every service since it’s major “C” service (it’s felt bullet proof as far as the mechanicals go).
On the negative side, it has a few scrapes and scratches on the panels, and a dent in the tridion just behind the nearside front wheel (see pictures). Some kind soul reversed their tow hitch into the front leaving a chip above the indicator. The front tow eye cover has been lost (but it’s never been towed – honest!). For these reasons, I’d say this was the cheapest Smart Roadster Coupe you’ll find. It’s mechanically solid as a rock, and you could buy a new set of panels and still have a bargain.
After four years, it’s time to move on, after three sub-one litre two seater cars, I’ve got a big car. A Fiat 500. But I’ll be lucky if it has as much character as the Roady.
